The scientific name for the osteospermum daisy is derived from the Greek “osteon” (bone) and Latin “spermum” (seed). These African daisies are wildly popular in the gardens of my neighborhood in Southern California because of their drought tolerance and continual display of color. This yellow variety is especially welcome during our “June Gloom” period, when coast fog blankets coastal California for weeks at a time. The flowers add a bit of bright cheer and contrast against the gray skies.

"In his images, David creates fantastic, contemporary signs from nature's own high style. They become vibrant, nearly abstract mandalas."
